Sonnet to Plead

If when I'm old you look at me with love,
And call my silver hair your heart's delight,
With winsome smile I'll welcome you tonight
And know your reassurance is enough.
How can I give my heart away like so
If there exists a chance your careless touch
Will break it? I am cautious all too much,
But where my heart is soft you'll never know.
I'm sorry if my heart is guarded well,
And honest though you are I see it not.
My trust is never late nor cheaply bought;
You ask for heaven; here, I grant you hell.
Show me your love will last until I die,
And we shall be together, you and I.
