Yeah, I'll be here,
Take or leave me.
You never do seem
To believe me.
But life's not lived
In twists and turns.
I'm here to soothe
The blistered burns
Of past mistakes
And old regrets.
My love supply
Won't empty yet.
This love? That lie?
It's up to you.
The old is gone--
You are made new.
But once again,
It's not my choice.
Turn your eyes
To the sound of my voice.
I cannot force you
But I implore
Your heart to go
And sin no more.
My love will last
Through stormy nights,
Through arid days,
Heart-wrenching fights.
Just love me too--
The choice is yours.
My offer stands;
My heart once more
Is at your feet.
And I'll be here,
And I will wait
As you face your fear
And choose my love.
Let go, give in--
I'll melt the heart
Of stone within.
I'll be here,
Take or leave me.
I'll give my all
If you just receive me.
postscript
How funny that I wrote this earlier this week, and then that's also what the sermon was about this morning. How is it that there can exist a love so unflinching and so powerful as the love of God? And how can we learn to love others half as well?
