Drunken Fool

A beautiful shyness, a flicker of lashes,
And the goosebumps I get from your breath on my skin,
Lead me through rain and icicle cold
Until I am drunk with your mercy again.

I am holding a candle, now holding a torch
That no rainstorm can smother, can douse or destroy.
And your holy fire keeps it ablaze
Until I am drunk with your undying joy.

You whisper a secret and I turn my steps
To the place you've promised to meet me tonight;
No rain that pours or drenches me here
Will get me more drunk than you, holding tight.

My lips taste the blood from my own wounds
And the rain is slowing my progress, but still
I want nothing less than intoxication,
And nothing will get me more drunk than you will.

I'm drowning in your eyes, and I'm holding out
For the only ebriety my soul requires,
And the rain burns and dies in the heat of your flames
And I'm here, getting drunk, in your beautiful fires.

postscript
Wrote it back in march. I may or may not have been influenced by Skilet's "Better than drugs." I don't remember. There's only one true remedy to the pain and loneliness, and that is Jesus. It's a beautiful thing. Edited for better flow.
