Daylight

Feeling lost in darkness,
So cliché a plight.
Vulnerable and overwhelmed
In the breathless pulse of night.
Let not the fear contain you;
There's victory in daylight.

I've a loathsome nightmare
Who's settled on my mind,
And regrets from day before
Won't let my thoughts unwind.
Pushing too hard, prisoner,
Gets you left behind.

Ah, but here's a glow,
Imperceptible and grey--
Gives the vaguest hint of dawn;
Turns night to faintest day.
Quick! Hold tight to sunbeams
Before they get away!

Why fight the grip of darkness?
'Tis a foe all too recurring,
And the onslaught of his weapons
Is nigh beyond enduring.
But cling to life you yet hold dear:
Daylight, love, is stirring.

Reach up and grasp the daylight;
Night cannot hold you fast
When a ransom's paid already
For the yesterdays gone past,
And the fog that once took liberty
Evaporates at last.

See here, the light is growing;
Your despair is free to go
And ne'er return to prisoners
Once caught in undertow,
Drowning in this darkness,
So cliché a foe.

Morning! What a beacon
Of the light that burns so true.
No night in any form at all
Can hold itself to you.
The victory has come now,
The sun is shining through,
And the pulse of blinding daylight
Has come, love, just for you.

postscript
Feeling rather lost in the middle of the night.... that is, 3am, I remember the song of the same title by Remedy Drive. No matter how lost we feel, whether in metaphorical darkness or the real stuff, daylight is coming.
