April 8--Fairy Stories

Some may wish to live their days
With rose-colored glasses on--a haze
Of simple happiness contrived
To add soft color to their lives.
But sorrow sweet comes creeping in
And pulls the glasses off again--
For fairy tales twist and turn
Though optimists see love and yearn
For life just like a fairy tale.
Before they even start, they fail.
Some fairy tales are dark and grim;
The good guys lose, the bad guys win.
The ups and downs depend on chance;
The frogs all talk and princes dance.
It is not cynical to show
How dreams may change from what you know.
Be practical in joy and strife:
This is no fairy story life.

postscript
This sounds so cynical. I think it comes from watching Harry Potter and reading Animal Farm. Goodness. It just kind of fell out of my pen.
