April 18--Fighting Eyes

My eyes, you say, hold longing,
And when I boldly look at you
Through my lashes, there's a stop
And a start I put you through,
And your heart responds, though I
Don't know how or in what way.
But I wish I had the power
To restart your heart today.
Blue eyes have their benefits
And downfalls, it's the same.
But if mine, stark, uncovered,
Undo you, who's to blame?
Your own have the effect
Of holding down my feet
To the floor, and I forget
Everything in the heat
Of blue. A color used
In oceans, rivers, rain.
Cold, but holding warmth
To restart your heart again.
Boldly, through the lashes,
And through particles of light--
A gaze of mutual blue
As warm as summer night.

postscript
A cliche topic, perhaps, but what do you do when you have blue eyes? You can't very well write about green ones.
