To the ones that gave me a chance
Whether it was of your own volition
Or not, I know not, but thank you
For carrying out your mission.
To the one who gave me a chance
And saw through my facade
And broke down walls in echoing halls
Seeing who I was before God,
And who welcomed me and chose me
And accepted me- it's you
Who changed the way I saw the day
Twas you who got me through.
To the one who gave me a chance
In the next step in the road
Disregarded the words I'm told you heard
And allowed me to sprout and to grow,
And who saw that there was more to me;
And I'm pleased your gamble paid off-
You allowed me to prove what I can do
Though others called you "too soft."
And to the one who gave me a chance
With a hands-off, tough kind of love
Who let go of me and set me free,
I can't say 'thank you' enough.
To the one who gave me a chance
And allowed me to explore,
And gave me the tools, taught me the rules,
So I could have and want still more.
To the ones who believed in me
And who allowed our God to speak
Into my heart and played a part
In this game of hide-and-seek
Where I hid but you found me,
To you I owe my "today."
This is because you changed who I was.
My gratitude's yours to stay.
postscript
I wrote this in memory of four different women who believed in me. Thank you.
