April 12--Promised Land

Surround me with your confidence.
Give me a challenge: let me stand
From now on without flinching
On the road to the promised land.
I've got no means to get there
And no notion of the way.
But that don't stop this pilgrim
From choosing to obey.
So what if I'm dirt broke
And got bloodstains on my nails?
I've got a wood-plank boat
And your wind is in my sails.
Surround me with persistence
That bids me take the road
Despite that there's no end in view
And I've quite a heavy load.
I'll take each step unflinchingly,
For it's my cross to bear.
Teach me not to question,
But to go, no matter where.
I don't like it, but my strength
Is found when I admit
You know the way, and I do not.
My path is ready-lit.
Surround me with your saving grace:
Show me I'm not alone.
Show me I'll reach the promised land
On paths I've never known.

postscript
It's a lil scary on the road to the promised land. But he knows the way!
