Don't get fake with me. I see you
And I see behind the smile.
Don't tell me lies-I know you
And I've seen you for awhile.
You've tried to show me charm
And you've tried to show me you.
But the person you won't let me see
Is starting to shine through.
I don't care if you're ashamed
Of the one you try to hide.
I'll find you out and show you
There's worth in what's inside.
For heaven's sake, be real
Or don't try from here on out.
I don't want to know somebody
Who leaves me full of doubt.
Have done, leave off, go home
Or drop your useless mask.
Know that forcing the façade
Is too oft a heavy task.
I'm sick of being lied to
And I'm insulted that you see
Your charm and false behavior
As a way to get to me.
A freedom in true friendship
Will come to full fruition
If you let go your fear, and learn
To trust in love without condition.
Just be whom God has made you;
Trust in selfless love.
Prove to me you're genuine
And that will be enough.
postscript
First poem for NaPoWriMo 2010. Inspired by seeing too many people trying SO hard to be somebody they're not in order to get and keep friends. You'd think this was high school. I mean, I feel for you. But don't try it with me. I like genuine people.
